7th Annual “Party Palooza” to Help Cancer Patients

The Sandra J Wing Healing Therapies Foundation Presents the 7th Annual “Party Palooza” to Help Cancer Patients

Pleasanton, California: The 7th annual “Party Palooza” has begun and benefits the Sandra J. Wing Healing Therapies Foundation. The nonprofit organization will have 11 individual events to raise money to help local cancer patients.  Donations go toward providing pain and stress relief to local residents suffering with cancer.

These special events are smaller-scale social events, hosted by Tri-Valley residents and companies, each raising funds to support local cancer patients.  All the hosts have generously contributed their time, talent, food and supplies so that all guest reservations and contributions will directly benefit the Sandra J. Wing Healing Therapies Foundation.

Included in this year’s events are some new events, including a Cal Berkeley vs Washington State football game, Tour and Tasting at Working Man Brewery, an Art of Mixology Mad Men Style cocktail party and a Taste of Italy dinner.  Some “annual” events are back, including the ALREADY SOLD OUT dinner at Bob and Joyce Shapiro’s home, the 5th Annual Sip and Paint Event, and the longest running Party Palooza Event— The 7th Annual Soups of the World, plus more original and special events.

Free Seminar on Lymphedema: Treatment and Prevention

PLEASANTON, CA, December 18, 2014—The Sandra J. Wing Healing Therapies Foundation (SJWHTF), a non-profit organization that provides funds for complementary therapies to cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy or radiation treatment, announced today it will conduct a free seminar for the community. The “Lymphedema: Treatment and Prevention” seminar will be held on Saturday, January 31, 2015 from 10 AM to 12 PM at Alain Pinel Realtors, 900 Main Street, Suite 101, Pleasanton. Ida Hirst, PT, will conduct the session, sharing her extensive experience in treating the combined problems that are often present after surgeries or other needed medical interventions. Ida has been practicing as a Physical Therapist, and established a private practice, Physical Therapy Specialties, in Pleasanton, CA in 1989. Ida does not limit her practice to the treatment of Lymphedema, but has found it to be an important component of her practice.

Ida will focus on the techniques used to treat and prevent Lymphedema and improve the patient’s overall quality of life.  Questions will be accepted through January 23, 2015.

Sandra J. Wing Healing Therapies Foundation Welcomes Two Newest Board Members

PLEASANTON, CA, January 21, 2014—The Sandra J. Wing Healing Therapies Foundation (SJWHTF), a non-profit organization that provides financial assistance for complementary therapies to cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy or radiation treatment, announced today that two new board members were elected to their board of directors. Foundation founder and president, Sandra Wing, leads the board.

Nelson Fialho joined the board in October of 2013 and is the chairperson for the foundation’s Stakeholders Action Team (SAT). “We are continuing to assemble a group of highly connected and productive community members to help spread the word about the foundation,” sites Mr. Fialho, ”as well as to increase our base of community financial supporters.” He has served in the role of Pleasanton City Manager since 2004. The Bay Area native lives in Pleasanton with his family. In 2011, Nelson’s oldest son was diagnosed with stage 3 cancer. During that time, he became aware on a very personal level how important complementary therapies, like those SJWHTF promotes, are to many cancer patients and their families.

Eija Sommerfield was elected to the Board in January of 2014 and is the foundation’s secretary. Eija, who’s banking career spans 25 years, works as vice president and commercial lender for Heritage Bank of Commerce in Pleasanton. She also serves on the Pleasanton Chamber Foundation Board. The Finland native lives in Pleasanton with her husband and 8-year old son. Eija is honored to be part of Sandra J. Wing Healing Therapies Foundation due to its committed and selfless volunteer base that allows the organization to provide relief to people with cancer.

The Sandra J. Wing Healing Therapies Foundation awarded grants to 136 cancer patients in the Tri-Valley in their 2013 fiscal year and is quickly approaching a total of 400 beneficiaries helped to date. The board of directors is comprised of leading business executives, and medical professionals in the Tri-Valley. The board provides guidance to the foundation’s all-volunteer workforce, strategic planning, and outreach and helps secure funding for the organization’s operations.

“Our new board members possess a scope of capabilities and community involvement that will be invaluable to the Foundation and our purpose,” commented founder and president, Sandra Wing. “I am certain that with their leadership and community connections we will have the opportunity to grow the foundation and better serve cancer patients in the Tri-Valley.”
